Nature & Landscape Photography by Greg Russell
Wendell Berry wrote, "If you don't know where you are, you don't know who you are." This notion of Sense of Place--our geographic location partly defining who we are--resonates with me. Because I was born and have lived my entire life in the American West, the landscapes, people, culture and values of the West have helped shape who I am today. I feel at home in the mountains and canyons I grew up exploring.
As a photographer, I continue exploring the wild places I fell in love with as a child. Through my images, I want to foster in the viewer an authentic sense of attachment and belonging to the environment. I make images of landscapes that connect me to these places; often they are intimate scenes whose beauty may not be immediately obvious to the casual observer.
